My husband had a pulpectomy 4 months ago and now our dentist has closed up shop. My husband's tooth is killing him and the dentist doesn't like to return calls. I called another office that he does business at and finally got a hold of him, he is squeezing my husband in tomorrow but said that he is going to take a look and see what is going on. This is probably the 3rd time he has just taken a look but not finished the tooth. What are our options? Husband not sleeping and tooth hurting worse than ever. My only other option is to go see another dentist who is on our plan, but can't get in to see them for over 2 weeks... If anyone can help it would be appreciated, I am going broke buying Oragel that really doesn't do much for him and advil that he is takng like candy...

I am guessing that there is still infection at the tip of the tooths root. Your husband probably needs an antibiotic. The dentist should be taking an x-ray of the tooth. He needs to check for infection around the root tips an/or the possibility of the tooth having another root that the dentist didn't clean out. Your best bet would be to have your husband see a specialist called an endodontist.

Your husband may be having a missed canal or some portion of pulp is left inside still. So he will need to remove it, and the root canals need to be thoroughly cleaned.. after that in the next appointment , they will fill his rot canals.. the treatment is called root canal treatment.
Your husband may have to take antibiotics depending on the extend of infection extending beyond root tips... but taking antibiotics alone will not cure.. so you will have to consult a endodontist to do RCT. A good dentist can also take care of the situation.. if u know anyone,u can consult him... there is nothing to worry.. but consult a dentist at the earliest, since periapical infection may flare up and can cause swelling on that side of face..

I would say that there is 1 in thousand chance of a R.c.t faliure,even the best of the best dentist can get an Rc.t. faliure,or an accesory canal can be missed,because the anatomy of canals and there location can sometimes be really complex and it becomes difficult to locate,I know when you love someone you can't see that person in pain,same is the case with you,your apprehension is coompletely justified,get hold of a dentist who can give you an emergency appointment,in the mean time you can go to a medical doc if dentist doesn't have time and get a course of antibiotic started.
