Ask Me Help Desk - Fail to remain/ ottawa

I was driving to work early in the morning my window was frosty so I went to clean it off with windshield washer fluid which ended up making my window impossible to see out of, I ended up sliding into a snow bank. I left the scene in fear that I was going to be late for work with my car running and my purse in my car. I was clearly not thinking straight. The officer came to my work and charged me with failure to remain and not changing my address on my licence. This is my first offence and I have no idea of what to do? Should I go to points or x coppers to deal with my case? It's 7 points and I can't afford my insurance to go up

Let me understand this exactly. You landed in a snow bank, and you left your car there, running. You also left your purse in the car. I think getting this settled would be foremost in your mind and far more important then getting to work on time. But why did you leave your car running ?

I believe the officer was well within the rights of the road to charge you and it is up to you to have your drivers license up dated when you move to a new Province, or move at all.

Seven points is a lot to lose, you are right. If you have the ticket now, go to court and appear. Chances are the officer will not show and in that case, the judge will throw it out if you put up a good case for yourself, but I don't know how that's possible after leaving your purse in the car and your car running. It makes you look scatter brained somewhat. By leaving your car in the snow bank you were endangering others and snow removal.

On second thought, yes, get one of those guys that handles the ticket and court for you, but they are expensive. It would definitely save your valuable points.

Whoops I missed that. You left your car running and your purse in it?? That's a different story. The cop probably though you were injured and wandering in the snow somewhere. So when he found out you just walked away, he decided to ticket you. The cops may have spent a lot of money searching for you. .

But anyway, you should be able to plead this down

I'm having trouble with this post - you couldn't see but you drove anyway; you went off the road; you went into a snowbank and you fled the scene, leaving your purse behind and the car running... because you didn't want to be late for work?

You never called the Police - they just came to your place of work, looking for you?

Either there is more to this or your boss is a monster. I'm not sure which.
