    Costs of green card-tax deductible?
    Hello,

I filed for my Green Card (permanent resident status) last year and spent about $7000 in various application fees and lawyer fees etc. Since this is a cost for earning taxable income in the US (perm resident status application based on employment), can I use this expense in my tax forms for 2007. Can I itemize my taxes and use this cost as a tax deductible expense?

My wages etc earned last year are $53,635, and I earned $441.47 interest income. My SS income was 56,458.39 and medicare wages were $56,458. My SS taxes were 3,500.36 and medicare taxes were 818.66 withheld. Federal income tax withheld was $7,647.49.

I'm filing single and have no other expenses, deductions.

Please let me know what to do...

    Thanks.

    Negative.

The IRS considers the costs of applying for a green card or any work visa to be a personal expense which is NOT deductible.
