My 16 yr old friend wants to get emancipated from her parents. Does anyone know what the rules and way to get emancipated in the state of Minnesota?

Does she have a job? Can she live by herself? Pay for food an apartment etc.

Those are the main grounds for emancipation. What she needs to do is go to her local Family Court and file a petition for emancipation. The court clerk should help her with any fomrs and what she will have to show to the court. But it will take time and is not an easy thing to get.

First there has to be a legal reason, not just she wants to, she is in danger, is she mistreated and so no.

After that she will need enough money to pay all her own bills, not just move in with someone, rent, electric, water, and will have to have a job to provide this, and show that she will continue her education normally.

She will need the money to hire an attorney to represent her and file suit in family court.
