    Hi,

    Direct Hit... What should be the ip address for the dailup modem`s? If there is no ip address assigned then what should be the troubleshooting step`s taken? But first I am confused whether the dailup modem really req a ipaddress.
    Let me know the correct ans.

    A dialup modem does not require or even get an IP address. IF a dialup modem is used to connect to an Internet Service Provider (ISP), when that connection is made a Dial/Up LAN adapter (a software adapter) is then assigned an IP by the ISP.

    If the dial-up modem is used to make a PPP connection, then an IP address will be assigned by the ISP.

    Strictly speaking a modem does not require an IP address say if the modem is used to fax.
