Have you tried anything yet? Is it a flat paint or a semi-gloss?

Is the grease really built up?

Try Murphy's oil soap. We use that at the library where we work to wash shelves and the walls where homeless people rest their heads (just trust me - hard to explain).

Or try a 50-50 solution of white vinegar and warm water.

Test either on a small section.

Sugar soap will remove it but be sure to wash off the substance well or you will end up with a powder film on the wall.

A scouring pad, a lot of cleanser and some elbow greare should do it.
