    Give up custody
I want to give my mom custody of my son so that I can focus on school. His dad signed the birth certificate and is willing to allow me to do that, because he's in prison. How do I go about do so. I'm in Florida

Your mom needs to petition on court to adopt your son. But is it reaqlly necessary for her toadopt or for you to relinquish rights? Why not just have her named guardian?

Yes, or just let the child live with her till you finish your education.

My husband had to let his 2 oldest live in FL, with their gandparents, while he was going through a nasty divorce. He did not give them custody, but he did have them appointed temp. guardian. Attorney - $2000 for the whole thing. Then again to reverse.

So, I would recommend you simply provide her with a notorized permission slip, while you finish school. The document should state that from (insert date) to... you are giving your mother permission to make all decisions related to the welfare of your child. It will be sufficient to get done what she needs to get done.

(I'm not a legal expert, just someone that has had to deal with this sort of thing)
