Twice now, the reset button on my water heater has popped out. The unit is only 2 years old. This has happened twice over the past month. First time, I thought maybe it was just a fluke, now I'm sure something wrong.

MassPlumber2008 was helpful in pointing folks in the right direction, so I tested my elements, they both have connectivity, so I see that means a thermostat is faulty. But I'm not sure which one... In the second thread, it just seems like I should pull off the top one and replace it.

And here's what I ended up doing:

Just to update on this, I was at the store last night to pick up the top unit, noticed the bottom unit right below it for $7, figured why not.

Replaced both units, was curious afterwards which was actually bad, so I heated some water, and did some connectivity tests across the thermostat controlled contacts. On the upper unit, connectivity correctly broke when I placed the sensor down into the almost boiling water (my multimeter was reading 1, or disconnect, on the resistance meter), on the lower unit, the connectivity just became more resistive (typically reading between 1000 and 2000 ohms).

Just for what it's worth. I guess that means the lower unit was still letting some power through, and thus continuing to heat the water well past the cut off point.

I have aa Kenmore dryer... the problem I'm having is when I start the dryer by pressing the switch and release it the dreyer dose'nt start if I press the button and hold it continuosly it turns but whe I release it stops seems to that the switch is not engageing??
