Allergies in Fall of year and crusty lumps on ears
Hello, I'm new to this site. In the fall of the year my rott/golden retriever mix gets severe itching, redness and raw around the eyes and feet (eyes probably due to his feet and scratching his head). The vet suggested feeding him Hill's Prescription Diet T/D and said that it would take care of his allergies. I currently feed him Beneful Healthy Radiance with Salmon in it. Are there any other options as the vet suggested food is very expensive.

My dog also has crusty bumps on his ears that won't heal. The vet said that they were fly bites and they would heal over the winter months and they haven't. My dog also had pancreatitis a few years ago, so I'm not too thrilled about trying steroids. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

If this only happens in the fall, it sounds like a seasonal allergy. Ask the vet about benadryl. I have used hydrocortisone spray (purschased at walmart) on my dog and have had good luck with that. I believe that I have read that lamb based foods are preffered to be used for pets with skin allergies. You may want to read up and see if that is true.
