My last lmp was 23 jan 08 which makes me 7 weeks and 4 days but my periods have been irregular, I went for a dating scan and the doctor has said that I am about 5 weeks pregnant which I don't understand, as that means I would have been a week pregnant when I done my test, when she done the scan the sack yolk sack and heart beat were all there, and she measured the gestational sack to be 6.7mm by 9mm so looking in my pregnancy book it shows that the baby is 5 weeks but my pregnancy is actually 7 weeks. So as you can imagine I am quiet confused as I don't know when I am due or how far I actually am. If anyone could help it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

There are two "ages" that come into play. Gestational age dates you from the first day of your last period, giving a general idea of how far along you are. Women usually aren't actually pregnant for one to three weeks after this however. Fertilization age dates you closer to when you likely conceived... using a scan to determine the development of the pregnancy... a bit more accurate. This is partly why due dates get adjusted after a scan. Obviously neither are exact, hence part of the reason for a wide range of what is considered a normal time range for pregnancy... and why only about 5-6% of babies are born on their due date.
Odds are they will adjust your due date again after any further scans.

OK so basically I won't know anything really till my next scan lol so confusing I had none of these problems with my first she was dead on time, so I musthave conceived 5 weeks ago which would make me 7 adding the 2 weeks for the period etc oh well thank you I will fins out more on my next scan

LOL.. unfortunately no... :) It really doesn't mean a great deal at this point, but you can tell people you are due around the middle to end of October if they ask your due date.

Ia m due the 22nd of oct an I too am having the same problem I had a scan telling me that I was 11 weeks back then my doctors tell me I am now 16 weeks but counting dwn to my due date makes me 14 weeks plus lol
When I went to docs they said I am def 16 weeks as they call feel the womb up to that date on my tummy this too is my second child and I knew how many weeks with him this is all too confusing lol x
