Do I have any rights as a roommate who is being verbally harassed?
My roommate and I found a home. We agreed no other roomates and no pets before we moved into the home. He has tried moving his 19 yo son in and the home is way too small. He also moved in a dog that does his business everywhere in the home.. my kids room, my bathroom, the living room. He has also moved a snake into the home. He has a 9 yo son who terrorizes my 8 yo daughter, and she comes to me crying all the time. My roommate spends 24/7 on his computer (not an exaggeration), and doesn't watch his son at all, but then calls my child a trouble maker. He blasts his TV late at night, my children have trouble sleeping, as do I, and when I ask him to keep it down, he verbally abuses me. Do I have any rights here, as an equal in the home, who pays my share of the rent and bills? Someone please help. Its not so easy for me to move right now, and I am sad for my girls. Thanks

You have every right you have written down in the agreement to share the home. If you agreed to no pets, give him notice he is in violatoin of that, and so on.

Tell him that he needs to control his child or send him away from the home. Also, tell him to start searching for new homes for his pets, as was agreed when you moved in. If you have something in writing, that would be very useful. Is the home rented or did you purchase it? Whose name is on the lease or mortgage?
