And, how do I re-texture a patched area of it?

It seems like "orange peel" but it's much more subtle than I've seen.

It looks a little like my ceiling. Not immediately visible, but mine is actually a form of lining paper up there, painted over.

No, mine's not paper.

It's almost like someone spread a thick coat of paint on the ceiling.

Hard to tell from the picture, it looks like it will tough to match. If it is a orange peel they make some spray applied stuff for patching. If it is just a build-up of paint from using a heavy nap roller you'll have to try to match it that way.
