How to pack and store refrigerator more than 6 months?
You have two options. The first is to clean out the refrig completely of any food products and physically clean the interior and then leave it plugged in at the lowest temp possible. The second option is to totally clean out the fridge of everything and then physically clean it and if you can prop the door open so that the inside can properly air out. You can close the door only if you stuff newspapers inside that have been lightly balled up. I don't recommend the closing of the door thing as the refrig will do much better if the door is left open if not plugged in. The best option is to keep door closed and the refrig on at the lowest setting possible.
I would think setting the temp at the highest setting would be the most cost effective. IE set it at 40 degrees rather than 34 degrees. I think cooling plain dead air for 6 months is a waste of energy, air is much harder to keep cool than food. I'd go with the door proped open in a manner so that no kids could climb inside.
