You should look into a speech therapist to learn how to talk. My son was the same way about being slow to talk. The therapist worked with him about 2 hours a week first teaching him sign language so he could communicate his needs and then started to teach him sounds. I would practice with him during the week what he needed to practice until the next session. It took my son about 4 months to really start talking words and then sentences. You can sometimes get a speech therapist who has "interns" in their office and get a reduced rate if the interns are giving him the lessons. It is well worth the effort to pursue this avenue versus wait until he starts talking on his own. Some children have a hard time in the beginning and then take off like a rocket once they learn how to communicate. The fact he is intelligent tells me he won't take long to get with the program and talk up a storm. As far as his not walking... do have grandpa keep practicing with him to walk. This is just another case of having to learn how to balance himself and confidently walk on his own.

Hi - my nephew is going to be 3 years old soon and he does not speak either. He is walking but he's very wobbily still. He has Fragile X syndrome - it can be detected by a blood test. It is genetic/hereditary and since he's a boy, would have been passed on from the mother. It is carried in the X chromosome, so a father could never pass it on to a son. I think it's worth looking in to.

I know nothing about your situation but I have a true story that I would like to share. When I was a teenager, a neighbor had 6 kids and one didn't talk. When I moved away he was starting kindergarten and he still didn't talk. He was a bright kid but he just didn't talk. I lost track of that family but decades later during the OJ Simpson trial on public radio, they interviewed a Professor of law of a big ten university. It was that kid that didn't talk. He had a first name that his parents made up and his last name was even stranger. The odds of two people on this earth have the same name is astronomical. This is a true story. I tried to Google his name but I could not begin to spell it.

You are your child's advocate. If you are not getting the answers you need from this doctore go to another and another till you get the answers you need. You are the only one who is going to help him. G-d bless.
