I am trying to install a Harbor Breeze control switch in the wall. My wiring is one black and one white wire. The switch has two black wires and the uusual reen ground. How do I wire. I am new to the site and appreciate any help. Thanks, Th0623

We need to start from the beginning, please.

In the ceiling, what wires are up there? Are there two sets of black and white wires or does one pair have a black wire and a white wire with black tape on it?

Given that there you may be describing a switch loop, you would first turn the breaker off that controls the power to the overhead black wire. Next, determine which black wire that cones from the switch, goes to the bottom if the switch. That black wire gets connected to the Black from your ceiling.

Next connect the other black wire from the upper port of the switch to the Black (Fan) Blue (Light) and connect all three wires in a Pigtail. Connect the White wire from the fan to the white wire in the ceiling and finally connect all bare wires together.

Make sure you have the switch in the off position. Then turn the breaker back on and test the fan?

Assuming the black and white wire came off the old switch, you connect the two wires from the wall to the two black wires from the switch. It doesn't matter which connects to which, unless the switch controls both the fan and the light. In that case, if the switches are reversed, reverse the wires.

Connect the green to the metal outlet box or bare ground wire.

Next, what wires are on the fan?

Finally, where do the two black wires from the Wall Switch go to? Is there wall switch in this puzzle?

From previous posting, I see that you have a Black/White and bare ground in the ceiling? Where is the switch you are talking about, on the fan or on the wall?

It sounds like he has a switch loop, and a two wire switch.

I'm not sure he is describing a wall switch or the switch inside the fan. Does Harbor Breeze use a control switch inside their fans for remote control?

If both wires on the Harbor Breeze switch look the same just connect to house wiring. If it made a difference they would be different colors.

You are trying to mount a Harbor breeze Control switch to where an existing switch is located. The two black wires you are speaking about are coming from the Harbor Breeze switch. In the wall, you have a black/white pair along with a bare wire, correct?

The bare wire and the green wire wire are connected together. One of the black wires goes to the black wire in the wall. The other black wire goes to the white wire. This is a normal switch loop design.

In the ceiling, There will be a Black/White pair w/ bare ground that is carrying power. Connect the black wire from the Black/White pair that that comes from the switch. Next, wrap a small amount of Black tape around the White wire coming from the switch and connect it to the Black wire on the fan 's wiring.

Last connect the bare wires together and then connect the White from the Fan to the White from the Power supply pair.
