Ask Me Help Desk - Miscarriage - HCG level will going up after dropped?

I have a hcg blood test on 3.3.08, and followed another hcg blood test on 3.6.08. My result are 80,000 dropped 65,000. My doc said I have miscarriage. But I still haven't give up yet... :(

Anyone know hcg level will going up again to save the miscarriage in any chance? Now I just waiting for the natural miscarriage. But it's already 1 week, I still haven't bleeding yet. And I still taking prometrium 200 mg x1 per night (since the day 1 my pregnancy). Should I stop it now, or should I taking it until I start bleeding?

This is my first pregnancy and I don't really want to see the miscarriage coming... is so sad... and I'm frustrating...

I still see some discharge everyday, like cheese white, but not watering. So any chance there might not be a miscarriage?

First of all... I want you to know that I have been where you are on SEVERAL occasions. I have had 3 miscarriages. Your HcG levels will plateau and then slowly decline as the pregnancy progresses. If you really want the confirmation of whether you are having amiscarriage... you should ask your doctor to do an ultrasound and see if he can see a heartbeat! Hope this helps... keep us posted

Thanks for your responding. I've started bleeding since last Friday till now, a little with some tissue and stop again, everyday.

Would you like to tell me did you have natural miscarriages, or you have done the D&C? And In your experience, how long had you bleed each time? So do you have kids now?

With my three miscarriages I opted to do one naturally and the other two through D&C. I chose D&C for several reasons.

1. It ensures that all the tissue is removed, whereas during a natural miscarriage, it is possible that you will not expel everything. This also depends on far along you are.

2. It was emotionally extremely difficult on me when I had to play the waiting game with the natural method. So, I opted for the D&C because it allowed me to have closure quicker.

During my natural miscarriage I bled off and on for about 2 weeks. With my D&C's it was about a week.

I will not say that it was easy... in fact I still have a hard time with it... even though I now have a beautiful little girl. I appreciate pregnancy ten times more. It is SUCH a gift. My daughter is now 9 months old... and the pregnancy was awful. I had to be on progesterone and on bedrest the ENTIRE pregnancy. I went into preterm labor 3 months, 6 weeks, 4 weeks, 2 weeks and finally had her 1 week early.

Thanks for sharing your pregnancy experience with me. It sound not fun for you at all for your first pregnancy. I wish you will have a easy pregnancy next time.

So, I'm guessing your daugther was a natural pregnancy, not with IO, or IVF? I was thinking should I do the IO again since I already 38 (my miscarry was from natural pregnancy). I was trying IO for 6 months, and after I stopped, I got pregnant!
If I'm unlucky that have another miscarriage again and again. I might wait until 40 still have none.

I with you, waiting period for the natural miscarrige is very difficult for me too! I don't know when it will be done my bleeding... so I think I should wait not more then 2 weeks for my bleeding and do the check up again.

Have you heard prometrium doesn't work if you take it after if you know you got pregnant? It only works when you take it after you have ovulation?

Actually, there are several reasons for the progesterone. The reason why I was on it was because your placenta is supposed to naturally produce progesterone to sustain a pregnancy. Well, I was miscarrying right around the time that my placenta was supposed to take over. (the baby has a yolk sac that provides its nutrients until then). The doctors put me on progesterone suppositories until I reached 14 weeks... then I was able to go off them and I sustained this pregnancy! I had seen a different doctor for my last two miscarriages and he just shrugged it off as I was young and I would most likely conceive again. So... when I found out I was pregnant again, I looked for a High Risk OB/GYN. He was amazing! He pinpointed what he saw the problem was and took care of it.

Progesterone suppositories are commonly used in women who have had more than 1 miscarriage in a row. It has been shown to be extremely successful in helping to sustain pregnancies. Also... the best thing is... it can't hurt your growing baby... so no harm no foul.

I conceived naturally all 4 times... while on birth control! I guess I am extraordinarily fertile. That's probably why it was so difficult to lose my precious 3 angels.

Make sure and get plenty of rest during this time... if you can... talk about it. Also... it is completely natural to greive for your lost child. Do not feel ashamed. And, once again... if you need to talk... I am here!
