How to jack up sagging floors
I need to jack up the main beam of a two story house about 1" to 1- 1/2". Can anyone tell me how to do this?
    Thanks, Ted

Is your basement floor concrete? It would help to know that in order to help you here.

Run a beam across the floor joist, and jack up towards each end. Then support the beam and hammer in wedges.

There are jacks that are actually called "floor jacks" made just for this purpose. It's basically a screw type jack that you turn about 1/8" every day (less/more depending on situation). It's best to side on the err of caution and do it in minimal amounts every week. If you start to hear popping or cracking STOP. And wait for everything to settle properly. Patience is key.

I also plan on doing this to our house, one section sagging about the same amount.

once you locate where on the beam u need to jack up. You'll need to pour a footing. Make it 8" deep and 16" x 16" wide. Once this sets up you can buy you a floor jack or 2. depending on the distance from the beam and the craw space floor will determine what lenth jack you need to buy. They come in different sizes and are adjustable. Keep in mind where ever you place a jack you need a footing

Did a support column settle in the middle of the house or was there no support column to begin with, just a main beam?
