P trap for bathroom shower drain
    Hi,
I am finishing a bathroom in my basement and the drain rough in is in a different spot then where the shower is going to sit. I am going to put a step up to the shower to hide the plumbing, but I was wondering if I have to put the p trap right underneath the shower or if I could put it in the rough in hole and run a pipe from the shower drain to the trap? If anyone has an answer that would be great thanks.

    Hi Homertax:

Sorry, you need to install the 2" p-trap directly under the shower drain... This is so the shower vent (which should be rolled above the centerline of the existing drain line) can create a turbulent flow to the shower waste and effectively self-scour the shower drain line.

Let me know if you need any more... Mark
