    Taxes and child support
My sons father just filed his taxes for the first time in 12 years with the state of CA. He told me that he was getting back $17,000, but said he doesn't get it because he owes me $27,000 in back child support. Does this mean by some miracle, that I will be getting a check for somewhere around that amount? If so, does it come in one big lump sum? Thank you for any help.

Based on my sister's experience in Ohio, I believe you will get the money, but to find out for sure, it might be helpful if you contact the case worker on the child support case. Of course it might take a while for all of the paper work to be processed.

I do not know how the California system works or if they might hold out any amounts. In some places, they hold out a one and a half percent fee, plus some places hold out for any type of previous welfare assistance.
