    What is the statuate of limitations on the death of a dog at a boarding facility in suffolk cty, NY small claims court?

    If you explain yourself a little more the information would be helpful in determining an answer. Unfortunately, I don't think you have much of a chance with a statute of limitations for a dog.

    Unfortunately in NYS - and possibly other States - dogs are belongings like furniture so you can only sue for the replacement value of the animal and cases like this are very, very difficult because "usually" the Vet/boarding facility has expert witnesses who can pretty much bury you.

    I'm a dog owner and I find the law unreasonable and unfair but it is the law - I'm not defending it, only stating it. I understand why the Court doesn't want to get into owner pain and suffering but sometimes it's a hard fact to swallow.

    Small Claims Court is the way to go. It's a 3 year statute.
