    Gaining joint cutody.
Hi, I live in California and Im a father to a four year old child. I have no custody of her because we had domestic violence issues before. So her mom took sole custody and what not. Now that we are reconciled we want to get joint custody. What are the steps I can take. Do we have to go to court for this matter?

You need to talk to an attorney and fill out forms to gain joint custody. If there is agreement on the issue, you may not have to go to court.

If she has sole custody by Court Order and you want legal joint custody you have to go back to Court - and it is possible that the domestic violence background will make things difficult for you so I would be prepared.
