    Is replacing alternator worth it?
I own a 2001 PT Cruiser with about 84k miles - my alternator needs to be replaced. It will cost me app. $500 - is it worth fixing or am I at risk for other electrical problems to occur? I've been told in the past that once the alternator goes, other electrical problems will follow - is that true?
    Thanks,
    Lynne

Good Alternator, Battery, and Starter work better when all 3 are working well.
Bad Battery can be tuff on Starter. I would change Battery also if needed, Bad Battery will make Alternator work harder.

Being a cheap old weasel, I would DIY. An alternator from Auto Zone priced out at $180.

I agree; if you can DIY, then I would. If you must buy from Auto Zone, then you might as well have them test your battery right away. If you have a shop do the repair, then ask them to test your battery after replacing the alternator. If the battery drops below 10.5 volts under load, then it's time for a new one.

It may be more difficult to sell, or may have to take Less for No Starter/Not running.
