Lack of hot water in shower
I live in an older apt with about 90 units. We have one main hot water heater that supplies all the units. The hot water in my shower (not in the bathroom sink tho) has been getting progressively colder and colder to the point where I can turn the hot completely on and only get lukewarm water. In the past, the maintenance person has replaced the "mixer cartridge" that controls the hot and cold water and this fixed the problem. Now, the maintenance person tells me that it won't do any good to replace the cartridge because in order to fix it he must replace the cartridges in "all" of the units before it will work. Does anybody know if this makes sense or is my maintenance person just giving me a line? Like I said the hot water in the bathroom sink where my shower is seems to be fine. The shower has one knob that controls hot and cold water.

I want to party with your maintenance man. He must be smokin some fine grade sh-t to give you a "line-O-crap" like that.
He just blowed some smoke and shined you right on didn't he?
Here's what's happened and here's how to fix it. Some mineral's built up in the hot water line, broke loose and clogged the hot water inlet ports of the cartridge. Turn off the water to the shower valve and pull the cartridge. Check and clean the inlet ports and replace if necessary. Before you reassemble turn on the hot water supply and flush it out. Reassemble and rub-a-dub in style,(and hot water). Cheers, Tom
