There are a couple of things that might be causing your problem. Some of the specific remedies might be dependent on which computer operating system you are using though.

If you are running Microsoft Windows XP, consider installing Service Pack 2. Click the "Help and Support" link on the "start" button menu for a link to Windows "automatic updates".

Some computers using Microsoft's Windows operating system are vulnerable to fraudulent security alerts though a messenger service intended for Local Area Network (LAN) administrators. Note that this is a different thing from the instant messenger clients many people utilize to converse with their friends. Click the "Shields Up!!" link at   Home of Gibson Research Corporation   for a networking port security test and advice about configuring you network router or/or software firewall to guard against messenger spam.

You should also check your computer using an online virus scanner like Trend Micro HouseCall - Free Online Virus and Spyware Scan - Trend Micro USA (check the list for OS compatibility). After using such a scanner to make sure your computer is virus free you should install a local virus scan product (search Free Software Downloads and Software Reviews - Download.com for Avast and AVG).

You should also install anti spyware/adware software like Spybot Search and Destroy or Ad Aware (search Free Software Downloads and Software Reviews - Download.com)
