Live in NY will work in NJ, WIll they take taxes for both states
    Hello,
I live in NY, but I am getting a job in NJ. I wanted to know if I will be paying taxes for the state of NY and the state of NJ, or only NJ since that is where I have the job. And I was also wandering if they do keep taxes for both states, how can I find out the percentage they keep. I know more you make more they take so the percentage keeps on going up, but if you could just give me an approximate number.
    Thank you!

My books are at work and I am in the mountains for the weekend in a cabin with a laptop. Email me your question tomorrow at [email protected] tomorrow and I will look it up in my books. I am pretty sure there is a recipicol agreement for taxes between the two states but I do not have offices in those states so I do not know off the top of my head.

They will withhold NJ taxes. You will have to file a NJ non resident return and take credit for the NJ taxes paid on your resident NY return.
