    Screwless door knob removal
    Hi,

I have a screwless door knob and I can't figure out how to take it apart to fix/replace it. I did a Google search and there were a number of sites telling me to find the small hole and press in the clip and that will open everything.

Mine doesn't have that. I just have the two knobs. One the inside is a small switch at the bottom that I assume is for locking the door (although it doesn't lock anything). On the outside knob is a small clip that I can push to the left or the right, but I don't know what that does because I don't see or feel any changes.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks,
    AFW

I'd have to see your knob but most do have a small catch. Insoect closely the shaft below theknob, look all around 360 degree looking for a short slit the thickness of a match stick, press in on this slit with a small screw driver or strong fingernail, the know should slide out toward you. The plate below the knob may be snapped to the part of the lock that is screwed to the door. Slide a pocket knife tip under the outer most edge of the plate and twist.

    Are you following me Harold?!

    Just kidding.

Actually, late last night around midnight (no, I wasn't working on it the whole time!) I figured out what I needed to do.

There were no holes or slots for me to press anything in... it was even easier than that. All I had to do was basically unscrew the rosette (I think that's what it is called) from the plate. It took a good hard twist, but then came right off. Interesting design... but this one was broken anyway and wouldn't lock.

Thanks everyone for your help. I am sure I will be back asking more questions when I move to my next project!
