New wire from washer to panel
Converting garage to living space, installing new laundry room. Looking to run new wire from the washer/dryer to the panel and add new breaker switches. What size wire and breaker would I use? Is there a height restriction for receptacles to washer and dryer.

I think a little more info might be helpful -- you know the answers -- we guess

Is garage attached to house -- how far from panel to new receptacles -- 20 feet?

    Soundfishin,

The NEC requires that the washer be on an independent circuit. If you check the name panel it will give you the information you need. Personally, I would NM-B # 12 AWG conductor since it can carry 15 or 20 amps.

The dryer may be a different story. You need to read the requirements for that. The circuit needs to be run with 10/3 wire (30 amp). You would also be required to use a 240 / 30 amp breaker and the appropriate outlet and plug at the connection site.

If any of the new runs you are planning would be exposed, then conductors must be in conduit, no exceptions that rule that I know of. If you are going to use conduit, don't use regular cable, use the correctly colored THW or THWHN 10 gauge conductors. You will need Black - Red - White and Green.

Also the same is true for your individual washer outlet. If the wire is going to be exposed, then wiring must be in conduit.

If you are putting up walls, then the NM-B cable can be used.

As to the height of the outlets, I believe they should be 36" to the center of the outlet from the floor. But I not real sure about that.
