Hospital debt bought by collection agency
My son has a hospital debt now on his credit report. The amount was $1832, he has been paying them $50 per month for the past 10 months. What he would like to do is to negotiate with the collector , to pay off the debt and have the collector mark the account paid as agreed , and delete any entry showing account as ever being late.
How do we go about the negotiation ? The service Hospital date is 2/20/05 and the debt shows on credit report as past due as of Oct 07. Is there anything we can say to get them to agree?

If they won't agree to a settlement, then no, there is nothing you can do. I'm assuming that the debt is valid. You can offer a lump sum and they may be willing to accept that rather than $50/mth.

    No.

You will not be able to get them to agree to change the information on his credit bureau.

If he was late, it must be reported that way. Once he has paid the judgment or collection in full, it will be indicated on the bureau as Satisfied Judgment, or Paid Collections.

That is the best he can hope for.
