What are the real signs of teething? My once very happy 3 month old has been cranky for the last few days. He chomps on his hands and drools, but he has done that for a while. I’m at a loss as to what I can do. I’m not sure why he is so cranky.

He could be teething, some babies start teething months before the actual teeth come in. Imagine how it feels to have something constantly pushing on your very sensitive gums. Try giving him a cold moist washcloth to chew on, this helped my kids. Don't worry, it won't last forever and before you know it that toothless smile will be a thing of the past.
My little guy does this too. Are his cheeks rosey? It's probably early teething pains as the pp stated. Do you remember what it was like when getting your wisdom teeth? Now imagine being a baby with that pain! In the mean time give him plenty to chew on and extra love. It'll pass in a few days, just to come back again!
Excessive drooling, crankiness, fever and runny nose can be symptoms of teething. If you look at his gums, do they look like they are "budding"? Are they red and swollen?
If your little one has any (or all!) of these symptoms, teething is possible. :)
Thanks so much. All the tips are working great.
