In the US income taxes are typically imposed by several political entities:

The federal government, which taxes at a rate dependent on your income level. Ths is typically your biggest income tax bill.

Most (but not all) states also impose an income tax on their residents and workers who live out-of-state. The State of NY has a fairly high rate, which depending on income may be around 6.5% or so.

Local income taxes imposed by cities or counties are relatively rare, primarily for larger cities - for example NY City. Most local governments rely on property taxes and fees, sometimes local sales tax surcharges, and funding from the state for their revenues. East Aurora falls in this group - there is no additional local income tax there.
