I am 18 years old and my sister is 13 years old. We were adopted by our cousins in 2000 and now I am moved out and I have my own apartment. I am engaged and we would like to get custody of my sister. She is being hit with a cutting boared for no reason. She is being emotionally abused and I was just wondering what I would have to do to gain custody and how I need to prepare.:confused:

Ok I am not sure on your location so I am not sure if it works the same as in TX um... here if you are the only or closest responsible family and the child services sees fit they will place her with you after you alert them to the abuse. You should possibly see about calling the child service people there and asking them what steps you would have to take to get to the position where you are the care provider. Things they may consider will be how long have you been on your own, what kind of job you hold down, your schooling history, your significant other and what their record and past is like. I hope things go well and you get your sister. Best of luck OH also she will probably have to confess to them the mental and physical abuse she is and has undergone and they may have to monitor her living situation for a few weeks. That is all I can think of right now I will go do some research if I can get the time.
