    NYC Resident
I was filling out the NYS tax form IT-201 and I wanted to know what I should put for letter 'E'.. which is how many months you have lived in NYC during 2007.
I am a soldier and I am based in Upstate New York, but when I signed up for the military I was living in the Bronx. In January of 2007 I lived in Upstate New York, and in February through December I served in Iraq. My wife lived in NYC for the entire year and went to college in the City and is claiming the Education credit on our taxes. Should I put that I haven't lived in NYC at all or should I still put that I have lived in NYC for 12 months since I was away because I was in the military?

You were NOT living in NYC, so put ZERO.

Basically you have no time allocated to New York city, as such none should.your wife can file as a New York resident without you.she will receive the benefits available to a student
You must be prepared to show that you lived apart from your wife outside of Manhattan

I am sure reeses must have filed his tax return after posting his question on March 5, 2008.
