    Lip discoloration
I am a mixed, African American and Caucasian female. In the past few months I have noticed tiny freckle like dots on my upper lip. They are light brown, almost the same color of my skin instead of the natural color of the lip. It doesn't hurt or anything but it is noticeable and it seems to be spreading but only on my upper lip. I asked a nurse on campus and she kindly blew me off saying maybe since I was so fair skinned it was from exposure to the sun, since I was in Florida for college. However I was not spending a lot of time outside and when I was I wore chap stick with sunscreen in it. Any help is appreciated.

The freckles on your lips are caused by many factors, such as extra melanin, genetic predisposition, hormone imbalance or sun exposure. Skin lightening creams are used to lighten freckles and discolorations, but these creams aren't suitable for your lips. You can try using a lip balm with an SPF of 15 that contains Vitamin E & C to help fade the freckles. If it doesn't work, you'll need to see a dermatologist.
