How would you check the compression on a honda engine that is not on any car and you might purchase.

Be sure nothing near intake or has air cleaner.
You need Only a Battery with big cable bolted to ground(Block) or Jumper Cable.
Positive need to connect to Solenoid or Starter, Remove Spark plugs, screw in compression tester, crank a few times. Log that reading with that cylinder, repeat for remaining cylinders. If you notice Low readings on 2 cylinders next to each other, may be blown gasket between those 2 cylinders. If you get low reading, and squirt little oil in cylinder and now compression is OK, it may need rings, if it doesn't go up, it may be valves.
You will need a momentary switch to turn over, or a screwdriver.

If you're thinking of buying a used, pardon me... previously owned... vehicle, consider taking it to a qualified shop and having them take a look.
How much would it cost to have a qualified shop look it over for you?
If it has urgent needs, they would be able to warn you so that you could at least negotiate the price with the seller.
Should the seller not allow you to take the car in for an inspection... DO NOT but that car. No matter how you feel about the car, walk away... the seller is hiding something!
Then again, if there are not any critical needs, you will know that your money is spent on a car that will provide good value.

Hopefully the car had low miles, and had bad rear end damage. More likely a good engine.
