How can I "buy more time" ? My court date is next week!
I have to be in court next week regarding a 6,000 debt. There was never a mediation that took place like the trial response said. The only thing that happened was I called up there a few weeks ago and the receptionist just asked me 'what would you be able to pay'.. and off the top of my head I said $3,000. Then shortly afterwards I got a letter saying that I needed to send them 1,200 and make payments of 100 per month thereafter. Isn't this not an appropriate mediation? What can I do to buy more time? I really need more time because I have to know if I'll be able to file a ch 7... I can either use the $1,000 on them for mediation, or spend it on bankrupsy. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to postphone the court date?

It is simple go see a bankruptcy attorney this week, most will allow you in for a visit within a day or two. Ask first but about 1/2 offer the first visit free.

Then if you are going to file bankruptcy, then you file.

You can contract the court, or even have the bankruptcy attorney do it, if you are going o file and ask for a reschedule court date.

I disagree, mediation did occur. You where ask how much you were willing to pay to settle the account and you said $3000. A darn good deal on a $6000 debt. Pay the money and count yourself lucky.
