    Internet connection
I finally got my D-Link router working so my grandson & I can use the net at the same time. Now it has started to give me the message "A cable is un-plugged" at which time I am disconnected from the net with the message "your connection has been reset by a remote host. I know very little about computers but need the net to send eng. Info to people. If I go to Circuit City they will look at the problem for 90$. For a new 50$ router which I just purchased should I just throw it over the hill and buy a new one at Wall Mart. If I am not going to get service for the product anyway why not buy the cheap one

I think you need to try this the next time you have a problem

If there are 2 computers on the network are they both not seeing internet

If one computer is not connected -- look at nic card and computer settings

Take the CAT 5 cable from computer out of Router and plug into the modem

If you get a internet connection then you need to make sure router is set up

    Router Setup and Configuration

D-Link Router Installation and Setup Configuration

I don't think your router is the problem -- do not throw it away -- get it working

Well, I this may sound obvious, but have you checked to make sure all of the ethernet cables are plugged in securely?
In your TCP/IP settings on both computers are you set to obtain IP automatically? I've seen that error caused by IP address conflicts on rare occasions.

I checked all of the cables and even interchanged them-the problem continued
I put the cable connecting the computer to the router directly into the broad modem & the internet connection worked therefore the problem is with the router or my computers instructions to it.
I then disconnected the router,un-installed the router software and started over.
The router now workes & I don't know why. I just have to wait till it stops working so I can try to find out what is wrong.
Thanks for all of the help but my main problem is that computer people talk in acronyms which causes me to look at a lot of books or get on line to figure out what you are saying

    Thanks Again
