Why does my shower run hot and the tub cold?
When we run a bath at night for our kids we can not get hot water out of the spout. However, if we switch to the shower the water runs hot. Right now we are filling the tub with water from the shower which takes forever. Any suggestions - other than turning the water in the house up to 190 degrees and burning ourselves when we forget.

    Thanks!

What's the brand name mof the tub valve? One handle of three knobs? How old? Does it have temp control or skald guard? Is your diverter in the spout or the valve body? Back to you, Tom

Symmons Temptrol - Single Handle Pressure-Balancing Mixing Valve for Shower/Tub Application. It is 6 years old. It has a slip-on type spout so I am thinking the diverter is in the valve body.

Hi Long... check out this PDF file on your shower valve... go to page 4, 5 and 6. It will tell you how to shut down valve and replace/repair parts you need to work on.

In this case, I am pretty sure the pressure balancing piston in your spindle assembly is stuck and needs to be tapped on to release..or soaked in vinegar to loosen (or need to replace spindle assembly...TA-10 is part number and symmons is sold at all home supply stores that I know of).... but go look at page 5 and page 6 of PDF file and READ what they have to say in troubleshooting section and in section on how to shut down and access all parts.

Hope this helped you... if need more info. Get back to us... glad to help if we can.

NOTE HERE that this is a 760KB file so will take about 1-2 minutes to load AND page #1 may be missing.. but page 4, 5, and 6 should get you where you need to go. Take care!
