    Giving up parental rights
My daughter is nine months old and her father has never seen nor wanted to have anything to do woth her or me when I told him I was pregnant. I took him to domestic relations for child support but was wondering how I go about getting him to give up his rights. How is this done? What if he doesn't want to give up his rights yet still wants nothing to do with her? I also don't want him around her because he is abusive (physically & emotionally). What should I do? We live in PA.

Im not 100% positive, but I think once the father hasn't been in the child's life for 1 year, no child support, or visitations, you can take that to court, and his parental rights will be taken upon your request

Most courts will not sever parental rights unless you can prove abuse or neglect. Even then, oftentimes they want someone who will be able to step in and adopt.

I really recommend you get a lawyer for this. If nothing else, you need to file in the courts for custody and possibly child support. If you have legal custody, you can determine whether to let the father see the child.
