Drain in a fiberglass shower base
I installed a fiberglass shower base. The home store told me to install a 2 inch shower drain. When I returned home and tried to install the drain, it would not fit through the hole in the base. The hole measures 1 7/8 inches. The waste line is the standard 2 inches. Do I need a special drain?

Jacar... unless you bought that shower from an old GROSSMAN'S surplus store... ALL FIBERGLASS SHOWER PANS ACCEPT A 2" SHOWER STRAINER ASSEMBLY... PERIOD!

That shower strainer assembly and the hole in the shower base is like 4 inches across... UNLESS...

Any chance this is a 4 or 5 foot shower base that has drain on one of the ends... not in the middle? Just wondering... that may require a tub waste and overflow assembly!>!>!> BUT do not concern self with this if not a 4 or 5 foot shower base.

A picture would really help... let us know if you need help posting it to the site.. ok?

Anyway, something up here.. get back to me... let's talk.

I think MASS is referring to a retro fit shower base for swapping out a shower where a tub was installed. I have done several of those by Swanstone and they have a 2" collar for a 2" pipe. You actually have to install a fat black rubber collar to bring them down to 2". That isn't just a hole in the base, there is actually a small sump area under the floor drain, did you remove the screen?
