My toilet will not flush unless I unscrew the studor vent, then you hear the air and feel it pulling in the air and the toilet flushes. We have replaced the studor vent twice and the same thing happens, when we screw the vent onto the pipe. If the vent is left off, all works. This has worked properly for two years when we installed it and now I am having problems with it. What can I do to fix this?

Does your studor vent look more like the white vent or the black vent in pics. Below?

You really want to go with the white vent... it is a better quality studor vent then black one

I have replaced the white one twice and the same problem occurs. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The vent worked fine for over two years, the same plumber who did all the plumbing work 2 years ago is also baffled why this is happening.

Tell me, any other fixtures affected? What state do you live in... any snow lately? I ask because I am wondering if the main plumbing vent that goes out your roof may be clogged or at least reduced in size by say... leaves? Bird's nest? Or if maybe iced over?

Any other fixtures gurgling... delayed draining?

Also, you said you replaced that vent with 2 new vents and same happened.. right? I am wondering if after you replaced each one.. you got any improvement and then it got worse over time, OR did you replace and simply did not improve things?

Also thinking maybe you need to try another brand of studor vent.. like the black one in my earlier post... available at all home improvement stores... I think it is an OATEY brand vent. Just another suggestion/thought.

Now all the toilets are bubbling and the water came up the drains in the showers and tubs. Called a septic tank service, they dug up the septic, discoveded a clog at the baffles and will pump it out Monday. I guess this was the problem the whole time.

I have one of these stinking things installed under my kitchen sink. All bathrooms have a vent through the roof and work perfectly, but the kitchen has trouble every 12 - 14 months. In the past replacing the vent worked, now a brand new vent does nothing to inprove the problem. I've taken all of the pipes apart and they a spotless (no garbage disp, keep small screens in the sinks at all time. There is a clean out just before the pipe goes through the floor. I ran a short snake (12') down with no trouble at all. I've even got up on the roof and flushed water down the stacks I do have. HELP!!

If you take the new studor vent out does everything drain good again? If so, then it is possible that you picked up a defective vent there... replace it and that should resolve the issue. If that isn't the issue then the only thing left would be to put out more cable than 12'... blockage is probably farther down the drain line.

I forgot to add that to the first message. Tried one of the cheaper brown ones and the expensive white vents too. Off to the rental store I guess.
