Friend has breast cancer, disability says it's not serious enough to pay for it?
Hi. I am 18 years old and my mom's friend was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had surgery to remove the cancer(I think that's what the surgery was for or maybe to remove the breast) She can't work and has no income. Worker's comp won't cover it and she tried to go on disability so she could be getting a little bit of income... she has a 14 year old daughter to take care of and is a single mother. But the disability people told her that her cancer is not a serious enough disease that she need to be on disability and can't work. But the doctor told her she can't go back to work. The only money she has coming in to help feed her and her daughter is child support which her ex husband rarely ever pays. He gave her 700 dollars for 3 months. I feel so bad for them. It breaks my heart knowing that she is going through a time like this and has to worry about getting food on the table. Does anyone have any suggestions or comments on this??

She cannot return to work permanently? I don't understand that? My wife had breast cancer 9 years ago and was off from work only a few weeks to recoup and never missed a day for her radiation treatment. If she is in a strenuous job, I can see the doctors not wanting her to go back too soon, but there are literally thousands of women why have cancer and are still working.

She can go back to work... but not right now. I'm sorry, I meant she is off work and cannot return at this time. I just really wish there was something I could find out to help her situation out. She doesn't even have income to pay her bills. Her mother is paying her bills right now.

If it's just temporary until she goes back to work, maybe she could find a charity or church to help her out. I used to work in a church office, and they had an account just for helping people in need. If someone came in and needed some help, they would be glad to either give them some money or refer them to another organization that could help them.
