Is it possible to work out so hard in one session that you see instant results? Like that day? My friend is convinced that her muscles are bigger and she's thinnner that day when she has a vigorous workout...
Is she delusional?

I'm no expert but that does sound like a little bit of wishful thinking!
Haha, let me cover this in two aspects:
1. your muscles DO get bigger after you work out. But like the whole "you're taller when you wake up" idea, it does shrink back down. This is why many body builders and movie actors (prime example: 300) work out during shows and tapings. This allows for more definition and more muscle mass temporarily. After I work out, I love wearing a t-shirt and letting my sleeves be really tight. Makes me feel huge.
2. "looking thinner" seems to be a bit of wishful thinking. It may be similar to how one looks at oneself in the mirror after eating 3 burritos, they "look" fat... the person may "feel" thinner and better. Although, it is possible that if the workout is THAT vigorous (which I don't recommend), the person could shed some weight after one workout. My wrestling buddies always cut weight (trash bag in a steam room)... and come out 5 - 6 lbs lighter. Again, I don't recommend that... at all.
OK, well thank you for the clarification.
What if someone were to work out for like 5 hours?
As a man, I know that in times past when I have worked out with weights for a length of time, that my muscles that I have worked have been noticeably bigger and harder, at least for a short while. I am sure that it has something to do with the blood flow in the area that is getting the work out. But, I don't really know all the technical stuff about that, just that, it is possible for a man to see immediate results, but that they might not last very long. I don't really know about being immediately thinner after working out, but I suppose that the posture that someone has before and after working out could influence what they think about that.
INteresting...
Youz guys have great responses...
Thanks.
That's right, I said youz guys!
I resemble that remark! :D (Old saying... )
Who has great responses? Youz or the guys?
Indeed you do.
What she's doing when she exercise is overloading her muscles, when your exercise your getting blood into a muscle and it pumps it up, this is what she's seeing. She's also losing water, fluids, through sweat, so she may see a temporary loss, but if this motivates her to contiue on good deal, As long as she's feeling positive, it's a good thing, eventually she will see permanent results
She actually in really good shape. And she drinks tons of water at the gym. We both do. I think I fill up my water bottle at least 3 times.Quote:
