Detrmining paternity regarding deceased father
I have two children by the same man who recently passed away. My children can receive benefits through their dad's SSI in the amount of 193.00 per child. Problem is, dad signed my daughter's birth certificate but not my son's and I must now prove paternity without having DNA samples from dad. I have researched sibling DNA testing which can determine paternity legally with swab samples from myself and both children but it is very expensive. I'm also not sure if I can obtain a sample from their dad's stored lab samples. I know I will need permission from his next of kin to release this info- if it exists-and she lives far away. Any suggestions as to what I can do? Should I just go with the lab I found who will do it at almost 1000.00 ? In the long run, it is definitely worth it(my son is eight) but I'll have a hard time coming up with the cash.
