    Sticky spot on stained desk
I just bought an Alderwood desk and had it stained. I noticed a square, sticky spot on the top of the desk. The stain in this square is a little different, too. I tried Murphy's oil soap but no change. How do I get rid of it? What happened? Thanks.

There is a product called Goo Gone that is a citrus oil based cleaner that I have found removes adhesive-type residue really well. It is safe for use on wood.

In addition to Goo Gone there is also Oops! which is a similar type product. Both of them work best when whatever is not wanted on the surface of something is fresh and not really hardened or dried as much as it could be in time. You can apply either of those two cleaners with a clean cloth or paper towel. If the area to be cleaned might also be kind of thick, then lessening the dimensions of the substance to be cleaned off by using a single-edged razor blade first can make it easier then to use Goo Gone or Oops! Please be sure to read all of the safety precautions on the labels of the products.
