State tax for CPT in NY and school in Michigan
    Hi,
I am a student from India on the f-1 status.I went to school in Michigan in 2007 and worked in NYC on a CPT in the summer of 2007.I am confused about which states do I need to file state taxes for?

1.Do I have to file taxes as a Michigan resident or a non -resident(Since I am not a us citizen and last year I filed as Michigan non -resident).
2.Which forms do I have to fill for NYC(Should I show that I am non resident for NYC)
I stayed in NJ while I worked in NYC for 3 months.

    Please help me.

You need to file for BOTH states.

    1) Becase you are a student not originally from Michigan, you file as a non-resident of Michigan.

    2) IT-203; show you are a NON-resident of NYC.
