Connection of tub to main 3" circuit pipe in bathroom
I have two questions for reconnecting a 1.5" line from a tub to a 3" line that is part of a circuit wet vent in bathroom (tub, shower, lav and toilet all connected to 1 horizontal 3" line vented at the begining and end by two individual vent lines).

    1. what angle should the tub combo/Y fitting be installed on the 3" line? (there is no separate vent so the 3" line is being used as a circuit/vent to nearby vent stack). The existing shower that is being replaced appears to be connected horizontally to the horizontal line. Is that correct? Is 45 degrees or directly on top acceptable for the tub flowing in (not a vent)? I know that vents have to be connected above the center line but what about the waste line connection?

    2. The existing p-trap connection appears to be 3/4 s trap (it travels 12" horizontally but then drops 12" to meet the horizontal connection to the main 3" circuit pipe. Is that acceptable, or should the p-trap be lower than the 3 " line it is connecting to as is required for typical vent connections? Is there a limit on how low the p-trap is below the tub? If dropped to the level of the 3" line it is connecting to it would be 2' below the tub.

    Thanks for the help.

    Hi DMBLV:

If tub line is connecting into wet vent/waste line then you need to connect at center line and pick up tub from there... in this case (unlike vent) if roll fitting above centerline you would reduce the effectiveness of the vent on the tub.

And s-traps are illegal... SOooo stick with the ptrap... but you just hit the limit of length of tailpiece out of a ptrap (24 " max... except for washing machines).

Tub will be hard to hook up with that depth..? May need to stub up near drain and then roll/offset into a PVC (or ABS?) desanco fitting that attaches to the fine threaded tailpiece of the tub waste and overflow assembly.

That should do it. If this helped, Please RATE THIS ANSWER. Thank you.
