New basement shower and toilet backing up
Recently had a new bath (including shower and toilet) installed in my basement. We have been using it foe about one month and until two days ago, had no problems. We noticed a little black residue in the bottom of the shower and dismissed it (I know, but we have teenagers). Yes, this should have warned us. This evening we had disaster strike as we had backup through the shower and the toilet - it was a disgusting mess!! After we shop-vaced the mess as best we could, I got the roto tool out (I only have a 25 foot one) and went to work. Unfortunately, this didn't help. Other than getting a longer roto, does anyone have any suggestions so that we can avoid calling out the plumber? BTW, we are on a septic system and the septic tank is approximately 75 - 100 feet from the bathroom. Also, I checked around the septic tank and saw no evidence of overflow (wet/damp and mushy soil).

Open up the house cleanout and check for stranding water. If you see any then check to see if the septic tank needs to be pumped. If not then rent a longer sewer tape and go after the clog. Good luck, Tom
