    Confused about possible STD!

My live in girlfriend is a seasoned medical doctor, boarded in family medicine and emergency medicine. I tell this because I believe her medical knowledge may have some bearing on the possible answers.
Before I met the doc, I had been in a bad relationship where my ex had ran around a lot. When my ex and I broke off, I went for a series of std test over the next few years. I tested clean on all test. The last test was approximately three months before I met the doc. I was not with anyone sexually between the ex and the doc. The doc and I were like rabbits for the first year, (between 5 to 12 times a week). Then suddenly she was rarely in the mood, ( MAYBE once every 3 to 4 months). Her lack of mood has gone on for the past four years. Last December, she went in for her yearly pap smear. Three weeks after her exam, her two biological children that I now care for, were at their biological fathers for a week. Suddenly the doc was in the mood and we were like rabbits again. The next week she tells me that she was diagnosed with PID. I am not in the medical field and I admit I am ignorant about medical things, so I asked her, was she going to be okay and what causes PID. She told me that I must have acquired something before we met and passed it on to her. I then told her that I did not see how, because I had been tested and was always clean. She quickly dropped the subject. I asked her about it later in the week and she then changed the diagnosis to inflammation of the cervix caused by a bacterial infection. Well at this point I was at least a fraction more equipped to ask her questions, so I asked if the bacteria had been identified and she said it was just a non-specific bacteria. I then asked her if I needed to be tested and if I would also need to take anti-biotics. She answered that I would NOT need to be tested or take medication. She took Flagyl for 7 days starting in January and is scheduled to go back to her doctor in March. My question is DO I need checked? When someone is exposed to a bacterial STD, what is the earliest they will show symptoms and what is the longest they may go without symptoms? Could I have had it before and it not test positive? Could She have had it when we first met and me not catch it in five years. What are the odds that the bacteria is not from an std? I may be just parnoid from my previous relationship; however, something does not feel right about this whole situation. Please help!

Go for a check-up with a physician who is not involved with your partner in any way. Tell them your concerns. There you will get unbiased answers. It probably wouldn't hurt to tell your partner about it afterward and tell her what you learned.

Dude go get checked, sounds to me like when she dropped the subject to begin with she was trying to pawn this off on you, seriously go see the doc and get this taken care off, she knows your not a doc so think whether she is really telling you all the facts!!

I would definitely get checked out.

Note that flagyl does not cover the 2 most common causes of PID - GC and Chlamydia.
She may not have told you of taking Floxin concurrently?

Flagyl does treat Trichomonas, gardnerella, nonspecific vaginitis.

Women can have chlamydial infections and have no symptoms.
Men do not usually get asymtomatic infections.

Best case scenario is that after no sexual activity, then a sudden burst of sexual activity this caused.

Flagyl does treat trichomonas and bacterial vaginosis. Here's the kicker...

Both trichomonas and bacterial vaginosis is more common in women who have new sexual partners or multiple sexual partners. Of course, women who are even virgins still can have these two infections, but it's just more common with women who have multiple partners.

Her actions... the whole "no sex...then sex" and her dropping the topic of you being possibly infected... is a red flag for me.

Of course, I'm playing the devil's advocate... and your girl could be the most loyal person in the world. I'm just saying...

    Please do get checked.
