    Estate account
How do I open an estate account with a check from Georgia and I live in New York. I received the check after the death of my mom.

First I am very sorry for your loss, you should be able to take copy of death certificate to the bank, normally one you use or one your mom used that knows you. I will assume you have not taken the money from your mom's checking account and opened one already.

Who is the check made out to and what is it for? Why do you think you need to open an estate account? Are you the executor for your mom'sestate.

Yes I'm the executor of her estate, however she lived and died in Georgia, left a cd in trust for me which the bank gave to me as a check, but it says to the estate of my mom. I live in ny, citibank says I could not do it with them, but others told me I could open the account here in New York??

Hmmm, most banks should do this. All you should need is proof that you are the executor.

Try other banks. I don't see why you need to take it to GA.

Citi banks loss, some of these types of banks have silly rules. In that just go to a few other banks, check out Regions Bank, they are big in Georgia.
