    Make me understand in laymans english what is mutual fund investment?
    I have no clue about investments.I want to know how much and where to invest as a start.

    If someone could kindly help me in knowing and understanding of investmenst , it would be great.

    A mutual fund is a fund that invests in a type of investment. Instead of you as an individual buying 100 shares of AT&T, you might invest in a Telecommunication mutual fund which invests in AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, etc.

    Understanding the world of investments is beyond the scope of this forum. The Dummies series of books have several titles for investors:

    Amazon.com: Investing for dummies

    You might consider getting one or more of them.
